Opera and the Silver Screen -- Movies and Metaphors
A multi-media presentation with guest speaker Larry Verdugo
Since the Silent Era, many opera fans and sympathetic film enthusiasts have found a link or symbiotic relationship between the two art forms. The blend of opera and movies can furnish screenwriters with a very special tool with which to tell their stories. An extra dimension is found when this technique is used to add resonance to a drama or comedy, including films portraying romance, film noir melodrama, horror, violence, even political intrigue. This is Opera as Metaphor.
Presented as part of the LA Opera's Community Education Program Door prize provided compliments of the LA Opera.
Next Opera Talk is February 7, 2013. The Flying Dutchman will be discussed.
