Home Borrowers' Program

If you can't come to the library, we'll bring the library to you! The Burbank Public Library provides library service to Burbank residents who cannot come to the library or carry books home due to the infirmities of age, illness (other than contagious disease), or temporary or permanent disability. Each homebound person is individually profiled and matched with a volunteer, who will deliver library materials every four weeks on a day and time agreed upon with the homebound borrower.

  1. Patrons may borrow unlimited fiction, paperbacks, and non-fiction titles. Audio books and Braille cassettes may also be borrowed. Items may not be renewed.
  2. The librarian in charge of the service will choose reading materials according to the interests and needs of the borrower. Requests will be filled depending on the availability of material.
  3. Fines for overdue books and audios will be waived.
  4. The borrower is responsible for lost books and audios, and must pay for cost of replacement.
  5. Books will not be delivered if the borrower is not at home at the specified time of the appointment.

The librarian in charge of the Home Borrowers' Service may be reached in the Reference Department at (818) 238-5625. Your name, address and telephone number will be taken at that time.

Braille Talking Book Collection

Do you know someone who is visually impaired?

At the Central Library and Buena Vista Branch Library, we offer a large selection of Braille audiocassettes (recorded books) for the visually and/or physically impaired. We order new titles in the Talking Book Collection on a monthly basis. Please notify reference staff when you are checking out or returning the cassettes.

Patrons may also trade in a faulty or broken Braille cassette machine for a new one.  Applications are available at both libraries for eligible patrons to register to become Braille Institute library users.
